Rep. Ron Young attends STERIS’ Economic Development Announcement

On Tuesday, December 20, 2011, Rep. Young joined Gov. John Kasich and STERIS President & CEO Walt Rosebrough for the governor’s announcement of plans for a new STERIS center, creating 75 new jobs. The announcement came after joint teamwork by county and local governments.

Rep. Young said, “It’s great to see this project come together to create jobs and business expansion in Lake County. It’s been over four months since Gerry Reis, SVP Government Affairs with Steris, contacted me about this project. When I contacted JobsOhio to inform them that Alabama and Mexico were wooing STERIS to move operations to their locations, the reaction I received was heartwarming. They immediately scheduled a meeting with STERIS leadership (Gerry Reis) and me in Columbus. Immediately after the meeting, a skeletal plan to help STERIS achieve their goals was proposed and we began working to make it become a reality. I’m proud to say that I was part of the team working with STERIS President Walt Rosebrough, Gerry Reis, JobsOhio personnel, Governor Kasich, and Mentor City Manager Ken Filipiak. You can’t win without a great team and we certainly had one for this project. As you’ve probably heard, Mentor currently has the lowest unemployment rate in the state. With the leadership of men such as I mentioned, I’m not surprised by these statistics. It was wonderful to see the plan come together. Jobs were created. STERIS kept its operations in Mentor and our economy continues to grow.”
